Fruits of the Spirit
This final project uses a Fine Art genre project category. This Fine Art project involves different types of actual fruit to illustrate the fruits of the Spirit located in Galatians 5:22-23 “22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 meekness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”
While some of the fruits of the Spirit are noticeably in a Christian’s life, a Christian still struggles with sin. A basic definition of sin is missing the mark of perfection that God sets. The pictures of the different types of fruit show imperfections that represent the times each of us misses the mark. On close inspection, one will tell that sin is being represented visually with bruises, bite marks, or cuts in the fruit.
The stylistic decision emulates Edward Weston styled lighting from his shell and pepper still life works. Each photograph uses passive, square framing to represent the box of everyone’s lives. The clarity of the pictures was increased to show the fine details and give a higher contrast and gritty look to represent the imperfections every believer struggles with as human beings in a fallen world.
